Surely everyone remembers a cup or a plate from childhood that looked particularly cute, and which was one of the most loved to eat. Charming ceramics with lovely pictures were made by several Soviet porcelain factories, such as Porcelain Factory in Riga (Latvia), porcelain factory in Ternopil (Ukraine), Gorodnitsky Porcelain Factory (Ukraine).
It was a widespread custom of mothers and grandmothers to use pictured plates to encourage their children to eat – ” Dear child, empty your porridge bowl quickly and you will discover what picture is underneath today!”
White plates and bowls which depicted a girl with a gymnastic hoop and a boy with a boat standing on the beach became favorites of many children. These plates were produced by Riga Porcelain Factory on the 60s and 70s.
